Piano Great From The Ukraine
Emil Gilels,
1916 - 1985, was born in the Ukraine and began studying piano at age 5.
He made his first public appearance at the age of 12 and He graduated
from the Odessa Conservatory 1935. In 1938 he won first prize at the
Ysaÿe International Festival in Brussels by by a distinguished
jury whose members included Arthur Rubinstein, Walter Gieseking, Robert
Casadesus, and Arthur Bliss.
